• Mice can reproduce more quickly than rats.

Rats and mice are known to spread more than 35 diseases, including hantavirus, salmonella, leptospirosis, and tularemia. These diseases can spread to humans when they handle rodents (alive or dead) or come into contact with their bodily fluids. Rarely, they can be spread through bites.

Rodents and their droppings can cause allergic reactions in susceptible people, and cause issues for people with respiratory illnesses like asthma.

• Keep your yard tidy and clean up debris like fallen leaves to reduce rodent hiding places – referred to as harborage.
